Mishcon lawyer does it by the book

Release Date: 15 October 1998

Mishcon corporate lawyer, Alex George (28) has landed a two-book publishing contract with publishers HarperCollins

The deal was brokered as Alex attended this year's Frankfurt Book Fair with other members of the Firm's media group. His literary agent, Lisa Darnell of the Margaret Hanbury Agency, phoned Alex with the good news as he was on his way to the annual Mishcon Frankfurt cocktail party, where he celebrated with a hundred or so of the Firm's publishing contacts.

HarperCollins' editorial director Rachel Hore comments:

"Alex George is a very talented and funny new writer delivering wry and apt commentary on our post-Bridget Jones culture. His central character is a refreshingly disarming young lawyer, and as well as Alex's profession being a well of inspiration to his writing, his employer's support has obviously helped on his path to success as a novelist."

Anthony Julius, himself an established author and a consultant at Mishcon de Reya, supports this view:

"Just as the Firm's sponsorship of its first resident poet comes to an end, we discover that we have our own native creative talent in Alex. We are delighted to have been able to cultivate such individuality and we fully support Alex in his role as both author and lawyer."

Alex George's first novel, "Working It Out", is scheduled to be published by HarperCollins in October 1999.
