AIM from afar

Picture: AIM from afar2005 was a bumper year for flotations on AIM, the junior market operated by the London Stock Exchange, with more than 500 companies choosing to list and raising nearly £9 billion in the process. What was particularly significant was the number of foreign companies that listed – 112 in 2005, raising over £2 billion.

For an entrepreneur looking to raise capital for a small to medium-sized business, no matter where it operates, AIM is becoming the market of choice.

Foreign companies are attracted to AIM, rather than other markets such as NASDAQ, by many factors. These include the attractive tax breaks available to investors and the relatively low cost of compliance with regulations. The fact that companies listed on AIM are able to raise money from institutional investors throughout Europe is also seen as a key advantage.
