Enduring powers of attorneyAccording to the Alzheimers’ Society, over 750,000 people suffer from dementia in the UK. If that includes a member of your family, you’ll know how hard it is for them to deal with their financial affairs. The answer may be an Enduring Power of Attorney or EPA. However, an EPA can only be signed before the onset of the disease, or at an early stage when the person fully understands what he is doing. An EPA allows them to choose one or more trusted friends or family to manage their financial affairs in the future when they may no longer be able to do so. It’s a simple procedure and without it, the only option is to appoint a receiver. That can be complicated and very costly. For further information on EPAs, please contact: Andrew Goldstone |
