Changes Anticipated in Living Wills LawThe good news is we are all living longer due to better nutrition and huge advances in medical treatment. The bad news is people sometimes face a slow and painful death, kept alive by those very same medical advances. A popular method of securing a degree of respect for our personal wishes is the use of a living will. Illness and end-of life care is a subject many will avoid. But it is advisable to think about and decide on the kind of care you would want in the event of serious illness and being unable to communicate your wishes. Living wills do not at present have the full force of law though your doctors and family are likely to give effect to those wishes. UK legislation is promised in the near future. Dealing with these issues requires a combination of sensitivity and a sound understanding of the law. For further information please contact: David Collins |
